Is a Wedding Planner Certification Necessary?

There are many jobs that require a certain amount of education and/or credentials before you are permitted to start your business. Then there are jobs that you can do without any certifications; however, certification may certainly be helpful. When it comes wedding planning, a wedding planner certification is not required, but is an ideal thing to have. First of all, a certification will give you credibility and your potential clients more confidence in your abilities as a skilled planner. Also, the education you will receive when pursuing your certification will make you a better wedding planner.

To answer the original question, certification for wedding planners is not a requirement by law, but it is highly recommended. There was a time when the only way to obtain certification was to attend a special school that offered this service. Today, there are not only classes and schools you can attend in person, but online courses that can be done from the comfort and convenience of home. The Internet makes it possible to complete coursework and communicate effectively with teachers and peers. One of the best things about distance learning in general is the flexibility. Although there may be times when you are required to attend an online meeting at a certain time, you will usually be able to do your work when it is convenient for you as long as you meet the specified deadline.

A good place to start when seeking education and certification in wedding planning is the ACPWC. This acronym stands for the Association of Certified Professional Wedding Consultants. This association provides education and certification not only at their physical locations but online as well. The cost for this program is approximately $800, which is about average. You might also come across other distance learning programs as well as physical location schools and seminars offering similar services. Do some research and compare the various features and prices before deciding on which is best for you.

Your wedding planner certification will be a source of pride for you and provide you with a great deal of credibility. It will tell the world about your accomplishments. It is something you earn, and something that lets prospective clients know that you are qualified to help them. Every business has expenses, and the expense of getting certified is one that can make the difference between success and failure as a wedding consultant and/or planner. Your certification will give you an edge when you're up against other planners who are not certified. At the least, you'll learn a lot about the business of planning weddings!
