Wedding Planner and Certification Information

Many brides-to-be want the services of a qualified wedding planner to handle all the stress-producing details of the big day. A wedding planner is often also referred to as a wedding coordinator or wedding consultant. Wedding planner and certification information is crucial for anyone who wants to break into this lucrative career field. While certification is not a legal requirement, it is certainly a good idea. There are a variety of places that offer education and certification for individuals who want to become planners.

One of the best is the ACPWC, or Association of Certified Professional Wedding Consultants. This group is not only a listing of certified consultants, but it also provides education for those who want to get into the business. You can choose to take a five day course at one of their locations, or a distance learning course that can be completed at home. The cost for the five day course is $895, while the cost for the home study course is $795. Upon successful completion of either course you will receive your certification and be listed in the directory.

There are numerous other courses out there from which you can choose. Some of them may cost less than the ACPWC course, and some may cost more. When it comes to prestige and quality, the ACPWC is the best and should be at the top of every prospective wedding planner's list. You may wonder if it is worth the hefty price tag to take such a course. Most of the time, the answer is yes. Certification tells prospective clients that you are fully qualified to handle their wedding plans.

You may be wondering how much wedding planners make. While this obviously depends on many different factors, the average reported annual salary is approximately $51,000. For many people in the U.S., this is a good annual salary. Many wedding planners make much more, while many make much less. How much you will make depends on how many clients you have, how much you charge and how much it costs to run your business. Wedding planner and certification resources can be found all over the Internet and can help you decide whether pursuing this type of career is the best choice for you.
